Paralympic swimmer

Sharath Gayakwad is India's best Para Swimmer and a multiple medalist (six) from the 2014 Asian Para Games. He is an Arjuna Awardee and has also represented India at the 2012 Paralympics in London.

Born in a middle-class family in Bangalore with a congenital deformity on his left arm, Sharath has achieved incredible milestones in his swimming career. Sharath began swimming at the age of 10, when his school made swimming compulsory for all students. His innate talent was spotted and his skills were fine-tuned by Coach John Christopher, who groomed him by training him just like an able-bodied swimmer with his other wards, never allowing his disability to become a hindrance.

In addition to training, he also coaches a batch of 30 odd young kids, a majority of whom went on to win medals at the National Championships in 2015.

He has also co-founded Gamatics, a swim store, which uses data analytics to track athlete performance and aims to be a one-stop shop for athletes to fulfill most of their sporting needs.
